Just Me and What I Love About Haikyu!

If you’ve seen this anime, then I bet you kind of know where I got this blog title. Yes, my friend The Nocturnal Crow’s Perch is inspired by Haikyuu!

Before I go to a possibly over-dramatic account of why I love the series, let me give you a brief introduction of myself (first post and all). I am one of those people who never grew out of her love of anime. I’ve been watching them since I was a little kid and I am still avidly watching them until now. Why? Because anime is AWESOME! They are really fun to watch, they motivate you, teach you a lot of things about the world and the Japanese culture and after years of watching subtitled Japanese anime, you get to develop the fantastic ability of speaking and understanding a few Japanese words, phrases, and sentences — I was able to use this a few times in my previous work (true story).

Haikyuu! is a sports anime just like some of my other favorites — Slam Dunk, Eyeshield 21, Prince of Tennis, Yowamushi Pedal to name a few — and it revolves around volleyball. The story is about a boy named Hinata Shoyo and the Karasuno Men’s Volleyball Team (Karasuno comes from Karasu which means Crow).

Now, getting back to the topic, here are the reasons why I love Haikyuu!

Bromance

Don’t you just love friendship? Haikyuu! gives us plenty of these — from strangers to good friends, rivals to best friends — the characters bicker like little children over the most mundane things but when it comes to what’s important they unite, help one another and fight together. The friendship development in Haikyuu! just gives you the good chills.

Funny Scenes

This is definitely one of my favorite things about Haikyuu! A super awesome move happens and they score a point, then they surprise you with a humorous antics. I’ve been a victim of this plenty of times while watching the anime. So I would recommend watching this somewhere more private, where people passing by can’t stare at you for laughing like a crazy human. I still cannot get enough of their quirks.

Characters

The characters are so lovable, adorable and funny. They are like cute babies you want to protect with your life. The character development is also great. You get to see them work hard and improve to be better and when they ace something you can’t help but jump for joy at their accomplishment (again, do not watch this in public places!). This is one of the very very very few animes where I love ALL the characters. I just love everyone in this story. I love the Karasuno team, I love their rival teams. I LOVE EVERYONE!!

I love how Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio bicker. They start as enemies and they are sort of friends now who compete about everything. I adore Nishinoya Yu and Tanaka Ryuunosuke’s antics. I just love Oikawa Tooru.

Aoba Johsai Volleyball Team
I love how Tetsuro Kuro and Sawamura Daichi look like respectable captains but are both really scary people to their teammates.

I LOVE EVERYONE! If I can write all their names down I would, but I can’t since it will take too much space. So I will just repeat what I said earlier: I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS OF HAIKYUU!

These three are the main reasons why I continue to watch Haikyuu!. It’s an awesome anime that is definitely worth your time. If you haven’t seen it yet and if you want to watch it, the first season is available on Netflix.
